Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation Only Hospital in New Jersey to Offer New Bionic Foot to Amputees
Date:8/4/2009

load body weight on the sound limb. This puts less strain on the leg, knees, hips and back. "Basically, this new technology enables us to more closely replicate the natural functioning of the lost limb and create a better prosthesis for our amputee clients," continues Reda.

Clients are evaluated by a team of Kessler specialists and fitted for the prosthesis. They are also trained on the proper use and maintenance of the device.

According to Gus Eppinger, Director of Kessler Orthotics & Prosthetics Services (http://kessler-rehab.com/programs/outpatient-services/prosthetics-orthotics), "the PROPRIO FOOT is one outstanding example of the many advances being made in bionic technology and prosthetic design. Interestingly, while this particular foot is new to the public, the Department of Defense and the Veterans Administration have been using it for some time to benefit servicemen returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as with veterans of past wars. The good news is that it's now available to amputees in our area."
