Kars4kids Announces Tips on How to Keep Non-profit Volunteers Engaged, Passionate and Active

As summer begins, non-profits are expecting to see a rise is volunteer assistance. Keeping volunteers motivated in a non-profit setting, however, is not always the easiest task. Kars4Kids, a the nation’s leading car donation charity for the past decade which has an average volunteer network of over 1,000 individuals, has announced the best ways they’ve discovered in which to keep your volunteers not only physically present, but mentally engaged as well.

Warmer weather has a tendency to bring out additional volunteers. Whether they’re families on vacation or children on summer break wanting to do something meaningful with their vacations, volunteers come more frequently, presenting valuable and meaningful opportunities for non-profits around the country.

“We know that the summer time tends to bring out more volunteers than any other time of the year”, said Esti Landau, Director of Marketing for Kars4Kids. “But just because volunteers show up, doesn’t mean they are actively engaged. We want to keep our helpers motivated to keep working, despite having no foreseeable financial incentive. The help that they provide to us is so crucial to the progress of all non-profits, that if our volunteers are unhappy and unmotivated, it only slows down performance and creates a monotonous, cold environment which is not conducive to the work environment.”

Some ways in which Kars4Kids suggests motivating your volunteers is to make sure you are making your volunteers feel needed an appreciated, ask them to assist in specific, actionable ways, inspire your volunteers by making them excited about the cause, not your organization.
“These are just some ways in which you can encourage your volunteers to help and be in good spirits. It’s hard, in this day and age, when money is tight for many people and volunteering has no financial incentive. But we really want, not just our volunteers, but all volunteers, to feel like they’re a part of something greater and we want them to know and feel appreciated because non-profits really would not run as smoothly as they do without the help we receive daily from our volunteers,” said Wendy.

Kars4Kids is a non-profit organization that works to give back to the community through a variety of education, youth development, family outreach and faith based programs. They boast an average of around 1,000 volunteers at any given time throughout the year and have over 15 years experience dealing with the unique issues surrounding volunteer networks.
