Kars4Kids Spearheads National Anti-Texting While Driving Campaign as Summer Driving Season Begins
Date:6/22/2013

Lakewood, NJ (PRWEB) June 22, 2013

Kars4Kids, a national car donation charity, announced today the launch of its National Talk To You Later (TTYL) initiative to end the deadly habit of texting while driving. With the start of summer driving season signaling more cars on the road, car donation charity Kars4Kids urges, “Don’t be that texting driver!” TTYL asks parents and teens to take a pledge to stop texting and driving.

“It’s so easy to spot: the car drifting into the wrong lane, the last minute screeching halt,” said Steven Weldler, a spokesman for Kars4Kids. National statistical data has shown the distraction of texting while driving causes more deaths every year than drunk driving. As texting only increases in popularity, especially among teens, the danger grows exponentially. As a nationwide charity associated with cars and kids, Kars4Kids is aiming to tackle the problem head-on by working with schools, community groups, parents and public officials to help promote its TTYL pledge.

On a new webpage designed for the TTYL campaign, the organization lays out the alarming facts and statistics, includes an infographic detailing the extreme dangers of texting and offers methods to help parents and schools address the issue with teen drivers.

"As our name suggests, kids and driving are very close to our hearts and our daily work," said Weldler. ”We have received donations of cars that have been involved in horrific accidents; distracted driving may well have played a part in some of those, and they are frightening sights to behold."

The campaign will include social media applications for Twitter, Facebook, Blogs and personal web pages. The first one thousand people to sign the pledge will receive a free thumb band to remind them of the dangers of texting while driving.

Kars4Kids is a non-profit organization that works to give back to the community through a variety of education, youth development, family outreach, and faith-based programs. It provides an array of services to children and families including educational programming, school placement, tuition assistance, mentorship programs, cultural activities, religious instruction, recreation and guidance counseling. More information can be found on the Kars4Kids YouTube channel and the Kars4Kids Wordpress blog.
