Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death among Americans. Yet for the 3.3 million Kaiser Permanente members in Northern California, the chance of dying of a heart attack or stroke is 30 percent lower than average because of Kaiser Permanente's evidence-based cardiovascular Healthy Heart program. The Kaiser Permanente Division of Research conducts, publishes, and disseminates epidemiologic and health services research to improve the health and medical care of Kaiser Permanente members and the society at large. Currently, DOR's 400-plus staff is working on more than 250 epidemiological and health services research projects.
