Jewish Hospital and St. Mary's HealthCare Chooses Patient Placement Systems to Automate Discharge Referral Process
Date:8/25/2009

More than 80 Kentucky and Indiana post-acute providers join the PPS Referral Network.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) August 25, 2009 -- Patient Placement Systems (PPS), a leading provider of Web-based discharge referral software, announced today that Jewish Hospital & St. Mary's HealthCare (JHSMH) has implemented the innovative Discharge Referral System to automate the discharge referral process for patients needing post-acute care at five of its facilities: Jewish Hospital, Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital, Jewish Hospital Shelbyville, Frazier Rehab Institute, and Our Lady of Peace. The Discharge Referral System is a Web-based application that enables JHSMH case managers to send referral inquiries to post-acute providers electronically - eliminating faxes and phone tag and significantly streamlining the placement process.

"After looking at several discharge referral solutions, we chose Patient Placement Systems based on its demonstrated experience in building large referral networks that would include the majority of our local providers," said Lynn Simon, JHSMH senior vice president and chief medical officer, "and our decision was proven correct when, within four weeks of implementing the system, PPS had signed more than 80 skilled nursing facilities in Kentucky and Indiana to the Referral Network."

For both JHSMH discharge planners and the admissions teams at post-acute providers, there is no software to install in order to manage referral inquiries electronically. The PPS solutions are Web-based applications, delivered as Software-as-a-Service. JHSMH sends instant alerts about potential referrals through the network to providers. Providers can then view all patient data and medical documents online and respond via the system.

"We're pleased to have JHSMH as a partner in building an electronic referral network in the northern Kentucky and southern Indiana area," said Eric Christ, president of PPS. "Using our quick start implementation process, we took JHSMH from contract signing to full production in less than seven weeks."

The Discharge Referral System (DRS) online healthcare software accelerates hospital discharge planning and placement. The hosted healthcare software system securely connects discharge planners with more than 115,000 long-term care providers nationwide. Hospitals and other referring healthcare organizations rely on the fast, easy DRS software to help discharge patients into qualified nursing homes, rehab clinics, home healthcare services and hospices in minutes, not days. (No more delays and waits by the fax machine-dedicated online fax servers convert paper faxes to secure electronic documents.) Hospitals and referring healthcare organizations track and manage patient referral details and medical records, while enhancing HIPAA compliance.
