Jefferson urologist awarded Lifetime Achievement Award from Endourological Society

PHILADELPHIA Demetrius H. Bagley, M.D., the Nathan Lewis Hatfield Professor of Urology in the Department of Urology at Jefferson Medical College (JMC) of Thomas Jefferson University was recently honored as the 2010 recipient of the Karl Storz Lifetime Achievement Award in Endourology at the World Congress of Endourology. He is also a full Professor of Radiology.

"It is fitting that Dr. Bagley was chosen to receive the Karl Storz lifetime achievement award; having such a distinguished career in Endourology. He is an outstanding physician and a world-renowned researcher ," said Leonard Gomella, M.D., F.A.C.S., the Bernard W. Godwin, Jr. Professor of Prostate Cancer, and Chair of the Department of Urology at JMC. "The Department of Urology congratulates Dr. Bagley on this award and his numerous milestone accomplishments in the field of Endourology."

In announcing the award, the Executive Committee of the Endourological Society noted that Dr. Bagley was selected based on "his extensive work and pioneering advances in ureteroscopic management of upper tract pathology which have benefitted not only the Society but legions of endourologists throughout the world".

After receiving his undergraduate and medical degrees at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, Dr. Bagley completed two years of General Surgery residency at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut, before completing a three-year fellowship in Oncology at the Surgery Branch of the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Bagley completed his four-year urology residency at Yale New Haven Hospital. His first faculty appointment in urology was at the University of Chicago (1979�); he then joined Jefferson Medical College where he has been since.
