Jean LaMantia, Registered Dietitian, Cancer Survivor and Author Announces that Like Angelina Jolie, Others Can Take Preventative Measures to Reduce Cancer Risk
Date:5/16/2013

Toronto, ON (PRWEB) May 16, 2013

While some women like Angelina Jolie are aware of their susceptibility to breast cancer and take action to prevent it, not all have the benefit of genetic testing that can forecast looming health risks.

Breast cancer caused by the BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations are rare and account for only 5-7% of breast cancers.

In contrast the American Institute for Cancer Research estimates that lifestyle choices are a far more significant predictor of cancer risk. This can sometimes be difficult to sort out as some families can see a higher prevalence of cancer – but families also share lifestyle such as eating and exercise habits as well as genes.

It’s not only people like Ms. Jolie, who have the BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations that can be proactive when it comes to prevention. Everyone can do this by following these 3 key steps: achieving a healthy body weight, regular physical activity and healthy eating. In fact, one third of common cancers can be prevented by these three measures.

In her book The Essential Cancer Treatment Nutrition Guide and Cookbook, Best Selling Author Jean LaMantia, expands on healthy eating advice to inform her readers of what should be in their “nutrition toolbox”.

Cancer patients and nutrition professionals have been enthusiastic in their praise of The Essential Cancer Treatment Nutrition Guide and Cookbook, which is bringing comfort to many. Designed for cancer patients, caregivers and survivors, this easy to read book is becoming the recommended resource of cancer nutrition professionals.

In an effort to put more books into the hands of patients, the author has coordinated a nation-wide movement that allows donors to “commit a random act of kindness” by purchasing a book, having it sent to a participating registered dietitian in a cancer treatment program.

As gratitude, friends and supporters of the author are in turn donating their skills in the form of downloadable bonus gifts for purchasers of the book – whether the book is bought for themselves or someone else.

“I have been so pleased with all the positive feedback that I have received about the program” states LaMantia who notes this has included nutrition professionals and those who are purchasing the books, such as Kellie Bishop from Charlottesville, NC, who had this to say:

“Today I am delivering the copies of your book to the two Cancer Centers here in Charlottesville. We are home to the University of Virginia and the Emily Couric Cancer Center as well as another beautiful facility at Martha Jefferson Hospital."

She adds, that she inscribed each book with this note;

"Today, I’m Committing a Random Act of Kindness. I am thankful for many things, my health being no small exception. Today, I’m going to commit a random act of kindness, by donating this great book The Essential Cancer Treatment Nutrition Guide and Cookbook for someone I don’t know. I have met the author, a former cancer patient herself. Jean is dedicated and passionate about sharing her knowledge in the field of nutrition to bring you comfort and the power that comes with knowledge. This book is a beautiful gift from a great mind and a beautiful heart.”
