JDRF Illinois Names Allscripts CEO Glen Tullman 'Best of Illinois' for His Efforts to Find a Cure for Type 1 Diabetes
Date:5/26/2009

CHICAGO, May 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Illinois, the state chapter of the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 diabetes research worldwide, has named Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts (Nasdaq: MDRX), its "Best of Illinois" for his service on the Illinois Board of Directors, on the International Board, and for his support of the organization's efforts in developing an artificial pancreas.

JDRF Illinois honored Mr. Tullman at its annual Best of Illinois dinner May 21. The event raised more than $1 million, including over $500,000 for the Artificial Pancreas Program. The development of an artificial pancreas, one of JDRF's top research priorities, would enable a person with diabetes to maintain normal glucose levels by continuously monitoring blood glucose levels and then providing an exact dose of insulin automatically through an integrated pump.

"I am honored to be recognized by JDRF Illinois, however the real reward will come only when we win the race to find a cure for diabetes once and for all," said Mr. Tullman, whose son and niece have type-1 diabetes. "I'm very optimistic that, through JDRF's cutting-edge research, which includes the Artificial Pancreas and other important breakthroughs, and the generosity of tens of thousands of supporters around the world, we will find a cure for this terrible disease, which millions of us confront in our own families every day."

Mr. Tullman is a longtime active supporter and advocate for JDRF and has contributed to raising millions of dollars in search of a cure, along with his family's own contributions, which are measured in the millions. He also has encouraged Allscripts, the leading provider of Electronic Health Records, to become a lead sponsor of JDRF volunteer fundraising events in Illinois, North Carolina, Vermont and other states where the company has offices.

"Glen Tullman is a passionate and selfless advocate of the JDRF cause who has worked to advance the cause for many years both through his volunteer activities and his many generous gifts to the Foundation," said Patrick Reedy, Executive Director of JDRF Illinois. "Glen not only is a visionary leader in his own business of transforming our healthcare system using technology, but one of the many extraordinary Illinois leaders who share a common interest in supporting cutting edge research and technology that will lead to a cure for type 1 diabetes."
