It's PUR & Simple: Save Money, Improve Lives

For every P&G brandSAVER coupon redeemed in March and April, Procter & Gamble will donate a liter of clean and purified filtered drinking water to

children in developing countries

CINCINNATI, Feb. 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In newspapers throughout the country this weekend over 50 million consumers will find a way to "Give PUR Water" by simply redeeming coupons for their favorite Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG) products. For every P&G brandSAVER coupon redeemed during March and April, P&G will donate one liter of clean and purified filtered drinking water to the developing world, where waterborne diseases remain a leading cause of illness and death. America's favorite super mom and star of TLC's "Jon & Kate Plus 8," Kate Gosselin has joined P&G to help raise awareness of global clean water issues and World Water Day in March by offering advice on simple ways people can save money, while also improving the lives of others.

"As a mother of twins and sextuplets, saving money is crucial in managing my household expenses, but it's equally important to instill a sense of giving back to important causes," said Gosselin. "By redeeming P&G brandSAVER coupons during the Give PUR Water program, I not only save money on my weekly shopping, but my purchases activate donations of clean water to children in need."

Consumers will be able to redeem coupons from the March 2 and April 6 P&G brandSAVER booklets that feature products including Tide(R), Olay(R), and Pantene(R). Each coupon booklet includes more than $100 in total savings. Coupons can be redeemed throughout March and April at any retailer that accepts manufacturer coupons. If everyone that receives a P&G brandSAVER redeems just one coupon, P&G would be donating over 50 million liters of clean water. Consumers can also visit for more information on how to donate directly to the clean water cause and Kate's advice on how to save money while giving back to charitable organizations.

More than 1 billion people around the world do not have access to clean, safe water. Every day, more than 4,000 children die from diseases caused by drinking unsafe, dirty water. Since 2003, P&G has been committed to providing families in developing countries with access to clean drinking water through its not-for-profit Children's Safe Drinking Water program. Over 900 million liters of drinking water has been supplied to people in more than 30 countries. By 2012, P&G hopes to provide an additional two billion liters of safe drinking water, helping an estimated 10,000 lives.

"PUR Purifier of Water, the technology P&G developed in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control, has truly made a difference for people in areas where the water supply is simply not safe to drink," said Greg Allgood, Ph.D., Director, Children's Safe Drinking Water program at P&G. "Give PUR Water is a great extension of our program because consumers can get directly involved by simply redeeming coupons for products they use everyday."

Using some of the same ingredients used in municipal water systems, PUR Purifier of Water is engineered to be a mini-water treatment plant in a packet. The product removes dirt, cysts, and pollutants, and kills bacteria and viruses in contaminated water. The product has been proven to purify and cleanse water in some of the harshest conditions imaginable including during the Southeast Asia tsunami, the Pakistan and Indonesian earthquakes, and floods in India, Bangladesh, Haiti, Kenya, and Ethiopia.
