Columbus Citizens Foundation Calls on Americans to be Prepared to Offer Contributions, Goods, and Assistance as Scores Die and Tens of Thousands are Left Homeless
NEW YORK, April 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The catastrophic earthquake in Italy this morning that has left an undetermined number of people dead and tens of thousands homeless is a subject of grave concern and sadness for members of the Columbus Citizens Foundation in New York City.
"Like all Americans, the members of our foundation, who are of Italian ancestry, are deeply saddened by today's devastating earthquake," said Louis Tallarini, president of the Columbus Citizens Foundation. "The Italian government is expert at responding to natural disasters, but humanitarian assistance will be required from around the world."
"We are watching the situation closely and will provide humanitarian assistance once we have an assessment of the needs of the people of Abruzzo," Mr. Tallarini continued. "Our hearts and prayers go out to the people of Italy, and we call on all Americans to provide aid to those in need during this ongoing crisis."
The Columbus Citizens Foundation is a non-profit organization in New York City committed to fostering an appreciation of Italian-American heritage and achievement and in 1980 and 1999 raised funds in support of earthquake victims in Italy and Turkey.
