Invisible Children's Bobby Bailey Premiers a New Documentary on Malaria

Film builds movement for nationwide Sleep Out to End Malaria on April 24, 2010.

Washington, DC (Vocus) March 2, 2010 -- The United Nations Foundation and its Nothing But Nets campaign, a global grassroots effort to prevent malaria in Africa, have partnered with Bobby Bailey to produce a new documentary on the deadliest plague known to humanity--malaria. The film encourages local communities to take part in the “Sleep Out To End Malaria” on April 24, 2010 – the eve of World Malaria Day.

Tonight is the official world premiere of the film. When the Night Comes will be screened at American University on Tuesday, March 2 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Ward Circle Building, Room 1, Terrace Level. The event is free and open to the public.

When The Night Comes follows Bobby and a team through Africa to tell the story of malaria and examine its effects on the lives of mothers and daughters, fathers and sons. This journey brings new light to this deadly disease and leaves its audience empowered with what they can do to help reach the global goal to end malaria deaths by 2015.

“We are proud to help showcase When The Night Comes during the national “Sleep Out to End Malaria,” said Adrianna Logalbo, Director of the Nothing But Nets campaign. “We need to show our community’s strength to urge world leaders to continue their support for malaria prevention and treatment to reach our goal in the next five years. Thousands of Americans will Sleep Out in their backyards, schools, churches or synagogues so that families in Africa can sleep safe from malaria-carrying mosquitoes under an insecticide-treated net.”

Bobby Bailey, Ryan Smith and The Brave team are convinced that this documentary will help to build enough momentum to eliminate malaria from the face of this earth. In order to engage and empower the millennial generation, The Brave has begun premiering the documentary When The Night Comes in select cities across the United States.

Malaria is preventable, but causes nearly 500 million illnesses each year and kills nearly one million of those who become infected - most of them children under the age of five. Ninety percent of deaths caused by malaria occur in Africa, where the disease is a leading killer of children. Every 30 seconds a child in Africa dies from malaria. Bed nets prevent malaria transmission by creating a protective barrier against mosquitoes at night, when the vast majority of transmissions occur. For only $10, anyone can send a net and save a life; and together we can cover Africa.
