Inventor Richard Michiel Launches IndieGoGo Crowdfunding Promotion to Start an Advertising Campaign while Adding Even More Benefits to the Bottle Blocker and Saving Lives
Date:10/25/2013

Nesconset, NY (PRWEB) October 25, 2013

October is National Substance Abuse Awareness Month; Richard Michiel of Teen Stopper Protection has launched a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo to promote an even better Bottle Blocker and start an Advertising promotion to get it out to the masses. The Bottle Blocker is a tamper-proof locking device that fits on any liquor bottle or pill bottle to prevent unauthorized access. “It’s the only product on the market that addresses the two biggest problems facing parents of teenaged kids, Underage drinking and prescription drug abuse, while your kids are at home.” Says Michiel. “It’s the easiest way to carry on in your daily life without the nagging feeling that someone might be getting into your liquor or pills.” Keep in mind that without the Bottle Blocker, your kids have access to your liquor and pills 24/7, not just when you are not home. Blocking their access should become a way of life in your household, especially considering the new social host laws.

Although the response to this product has been great, Michiel thought he could make a great product even better by adding a serial number and a log sheet. Currently the Bottle Blocker sets up a barrier to prevent access to a bottle, but there was no way of knowing if a bottle was taken completely.

The New Bottle Blocker addresses this by adding serial numbers to the locks. There will also be a log sheet printed on the back of the instruction sheet so the serial numbers can be tracked. Michiel has launched the crowdfunding campaign to raise money to incorporate these new features, which will completely prevent replacement of the locks, as well as the possibility of a bottle being taken, thus giving you added security. With the serial numbers logged you will know when you locked each bottle and what was locked with each serial number. There is no way to get around these fail-safes.

Ultimately the goal is to give parents the peace of mind that their kids know that drinking and taking pills at home is unacceptable. If a child does tamper with the lock, they will get caught, and no kid wants to get caught.

According to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), alcohol is the most commonly abused drug among US youth, and contributes toward more than 4,700 annual deaths among the youth population.

Additionally, according to the CDC, in 2008, there were approximately 190,000 emergency room visits by persons under age 21 for alcohol-related injuries and conditions.

In a report from The New York State Department of Health from 2010: http://www.health.ny.gov/publications/1021.pdf. Every day 2,500 kids ages 12 to 17 abuse a pain reliever for the first time. In 2008, more than 2.1 million teens ages 12 to 17 report abusing prescription drugs. Among 12 and 13 year olds prescription drugs are the drug of choice.

Prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications are fast becoming the new "party" drugs for many teenagers. The new trend among youth is known as "pharming" - that is, kids using prescription and OTC drugs for recreational use. Parents must put this on their radar screens - one in five teens have used powerful narcotic pain relievers for non-medical reasons.

Many parents are not aware that their own medicine cabinets are potential sources of these drugs for teenage abuse. Young people also purchase these drugs online.

“I’m trying to change the statistics and save some lives!”, says Michiel. “I believe that the Bottle Blocker gives parents a new level of control at least while their kids are under their roof. That’s the only place where we can have some control.”

The New Bottle Blocker kits should be available by the end of January, until then the original kits are still available.
