Internationally Renowned Surgeon Reaches out to RNC, Hispanic Community
Date:7/22/2009

WASHINGTON, July 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Founder and CEO of the American Society of Medical Doctors Alfred Bonati, M.D., participated yesterday in a roundtable discussion on health-care reform hosted by Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele. Dr. Bonati and other attendees from the medical and small-business communities shared their perspectives on the impact of health-care reform on physicians, small businesses, employees and patients.

As an acclaimed American surgical spine specialist who has lived and practiced medicine around the world, Dr. Bonati's views on radical changes to the U.S. system are informed by experience. "A trillion-dollar government-run health care plan is simply wrong for America," Dr. Bonati said. "We know we need health care reform -- costs are too high and families are struggling to afford quality care. But passing a government-run health care plan will raise taxes on small businesses and lead to higher costs and rationed care. As physicians, we owe it to our patients to give them the best care possible -- not put these decisions in the hands of government bureaucrats."

Dr. Bonati, a fluent Spanish speaker who studied medicine both in Spain and the U.S., shared his health-care message with the Hispanic community in an interview with Telemundo following the RNC visit.

Dr. Bonati will also be on a Fox News Special Report on health care this Friday evening, July 24th. He is the founder of The Bonati Institute and creator of the patented Bonati Procedure for laser spinal surgery. He lives and practices medicine in Hudson, Florida.

About the American Society of Medical Doctors

The ASMD was founded to work towards an American health care system in which the relationship between physicians and their patients is free from interference by government, the insurance industry, lawyers, or other outside influences; to protect American health care from proposals or legislation that endanger patients' freedom to choose their doctors; and to ensure the American health care system is based on free market principles that allow patients and their doctors to achieve the highest quality care and reasonable costs.
