Global Assistance Provider Helps Travelers Understand and Navigate Flight Delays and Other Ash-related Issues Following Iceland Volcano

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) April 23, 2010 -- International SOS has launched a new website to communicate important information regarding the Iceland volcano eruption that recently brought air travel in and around Europe to a halt. The site was created by International SOS to provide the latest details, advice and information to the company’s members and the general public.

The site, which will be continually updated as the situation evolves and new information about the volcano emergency becomes available, currently includes:

In the past week, call volume to International SOS’ alarm centers has increased significantly. The majority of these calls are from stranded travelers seeking guidance and confirmation that they are exploring all options for securing flights home or onward to their planned destinations. Some members have contacted International SOS for assistance finding a local doctor near where they have been waylaid. Others have worked with International SOS to obtain prescription drug refills in their current locations to ensure they have enough medication to cover the days that have been added to their planned itineraries.

“Even as flights begin again and the ash abates, there are several lessons that travelers and those who manage them can learn from the situation,” said Suzanne Garber, Chief Operating Officer, Americas Region, International SOS. “First and foremost, it is best for organizations to have a plan in place for this type of scenario. While something of this nature could not have been anticipated, having a plan that specifically addresses an organization’s duty of care toward their employees is critical. These plans can be accomplished through the guidance of a comprehensive assistance company who not only helps mitigate the risks of the obvious challenges to international travel but also navigates the maze of unplanned events that can create havoc for businesses and employees.”

In addition to responding to specific requests for assistance, International SOS has issued 17 regional and global situational reports to members to keep them apprised as more information about the aftermath of the volcanic eruption becomes available.
