Integrated Benefits Institute Launches Productivity Modeling Tools to Help Employers Estimate the Impact of Absent Employees
Date:9/22/2009

New IBI Lost Productivity Calculators based on research with 800 employers

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- To enable employers to estimate the productivity impact from absent employees, the non-profit Integrated Benefits Institute has created three proprietary, on-line Lost Productivity Calculators for its members. The calculators can estimate absence-related lost-productivity costs for an entire company, a specific occupation group, or a specific group of claimants with measured lost time.

"Employers often don't know what work absence really costs their company," said Thomas Parry, PhD, IBI president. "Our calculators give employers state-of-the-art tools to estimate that cost so they can develop more effective strategies for managing absence and related health issues."

Calculators

The first calculator is the IBI Company-wide Lost Productivity Calculator which models a company's overall lost productivity costs due to unscheduled absence. The second is the IBI Occupation-specific Lost Productivity Calculator which models absence-related lost-productivity costs for specific occupation groups within a company, such as salespeople, nurses or engineers. The third is the IBI Claimant Lost Productivity Calculator which models absence-related lost productivity costs for a specific group of claimants with measured lost time (e.g., paid time off, salary continuation, workers' compensation or short-term disability).

All three calculators have been developed in partnership with Sean Nicholson, PhD, associate professor, Department of Policy Analysis and Management, Cornell University, based on his peer-reviewed research with 800 employers.

"IBI's Lost Productivity Calculators provide a pragmatic way to bring peer-reviewed research tools to the market," said Dr. Nicholson.
