Inpatient Management, Inc. and Reid Hospital Achieve Performance Improvement and Cost Savings
Date:8/6/2009

ST. LOUIS, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Inpatient Management, Inc., (IMI) a hospitalist management company, presented performance improvement and cost savings results of the IMI program at Reid Hospital and Health Services during the recent American Hospital Association (AHA) Leadership Summit. Kirk Mathews, CEO of IMI, and Dr. Thomas Huth, Vice President, Medical Affairs at Reid, presented average three-month-trend results of $1,500 Cost-per-Case reduction as well as 0.75 days per case Length-of-Stay (LOS) reduction.

"I wanted to influence the performance of my hospitalists and present the progression of their individual care regimen in a constructive manner," said Dr. Huth. "With these performance measures, we were able to greatly improve the quality of healthcare we provide and the satisfaction of patients we see. I was honored to present our results at the Summit and hope that others see the value in similar reporting methods."

The process performance tool collected, measured and reported data monthly, and output quarterly trends. IMI hospitalist physicians and Dr. Huth reviewed the reports monthly and jointly set goals to maintain safe, high-quality care and increase cost efficiency.

The IMI nurse-hospitalist case manager actively participated in the reviews and ongoing program. IMI's on-site Nurse Directors work side-by-side with hospitalists to continually advance the workflow processes, document outcomes, enhance communication and meet client goals.

"We are gratified by our program's impact and the savings of thousands of dollars at Reid," said Mathews. "IMI aims to build this valuable dynamic with all of our clients and provide the tools necessary for outstanding performance."

The results were presented as one of eight top posters selected for exhibition at the Summit, and is available at http://www.inpatient.com/casestudy.html.
