Innovative eHealth Course to Take Place March 28-30 in Boston, Massachusetts

BOSTON, Feb. 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Patient-Centered Computing and eHealth: Transforming Healthcare Quality, is an innovative and timely course that will be presented under the auspices of Harvard Medical School's Division of Continuing Education. The course, which will be held at the Omni Parker House Hotel in Boston, MA from March 28-30, 2008, is a follow-up to a successful 2006 event that attracted 120 attendees from throughout the United States, and abroad.

Through a combination of lectures, panel discussions, workshop sessions and a daily synthesis, more than 40 national experts will serve as faculty and teach participants about the opportunities and challenges that arise from the implementation and use of patient-centered computing and eHealth. Keynote presentations will be delivered by David J. Brailer, MD, PhD, Health Evolution Partners; Patricia Flatley Brennan, RN, PhD, University of Wisconsin; John Halamka, MD, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center; Blackford Middleton, MD, MPH, MSc, Partners HealthCare System; David Ross, ScD, Public Health Informatics Institute; Victor Strecher, PhD, University of Michigan and Paul Tang, MD, Palo Alto Medical Foundation.

Participants may receive up to 19.75 CME credits and 3.5 Category 1 Risk Management Credits. Continuing education nursing contact hours have been applied for and, if approved, will be provided by the Massachusetts Nurses Association. David K. Ahern, PhD of the Health e-Technologies Initiative (HETI) and Blackford Middleton MD, MPH, MSc of the (CITL) are serving as co-directors for the course.

This course is possible, in part, due to generous support from the following organizations: InterComponentWare Inc. (lead support), Microsoft HealthVault, Merck, The Center for Connected Health, HIMSS and The Kay Center for eHealth Research.

CITL (http://www.citl.org/) is a research organization established to help guide the healthcare community in making more informed strategic information technology (IT) investment decisions. Using a rigorous, analytic approach, CITL assesses information technologies, disseminates its research findings, and provides additional services designed to help healthcare providers realize greater value and improve quality of care. CITL's research is also used by technology vendors to develop more effective healthcare IT products.

HETI (http://www.hetinitiative.org/) is a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation(R) (RWJF). The program creates and implements a scientifically-based research agenda by evaluating promising interventions and providing the evidence base and knowledge required to build better eHealth programs.
