InfoLogix and HIA Advise Hospitals How to Obtain Maximum Share of $19B Healthcare Stimulus
Date:6/18/2009

Webinar will analyze six steps U.S. hospitals need to take to position themselves for maximum funding

HATBORO, Pa., June 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Healthcare organizations are lining up to claim their fair share of $19 billion in stimulus funding earmarked by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (also known as the ARRA). Even as the pivotal definition of "meaningful use" is finalized by the White House and Congress, it's crucial that hospital administrators take definitive steps to be positioned to receive maximum funding. To help, Healthcare Informatics Associates (HIA), an InfoLogix company, is presenting a free webinar on Thursday, June 25 at noon ET, titled, "Cutting Through the Stimulus Hype: What Hospitals Need to Do Today to Prepare for Maximum ARRA Funding."

Dr. Richard Howe, Vice President of Healthcare Informatics Associates, and Carolyn Swanson, Senior Healthcare Consultant, will cover the measures hospital executives and administrators must take to ensure their healthcare system is positioned to capture the maximum ARRA stimulus funding available. Dr. Howe is a former National President of Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and has served as CIO of the University of Alabama Hospital and University of Cincinnati Medical Center and Hospital. He's written over 50 published technical and scientific articles, and is a frequent speaker at industry events.

Ms. Swanson's 30-year background in the healthcare industry includes deep project and program management experience in strategic planning, healthcare information systems/EMR implementations, and CPOE for healthcare organizations across North America. She also served as Clinical Director for Respiratory Care Services at a regional Children's Hospital. Ms. Swanson has multiple Epic systems certifications, is a Registered Respiratory Therapist, and holds an MBA in healthcare administration.

Some of the topics that Dr. Howe and Ms. Swanson will cover include:

  • Overview of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA): What are the big picture opportunities and challenges for hospitals.
  • The Reality of Meaningful Use: What does the term mean and how should hospitals measure their compliance with the standard.
  • Gap assessment: What are ARRA's minimum technology requirements and what short-term investments can be pursued to close crucial gaps.
  • Qualified EMR systems: What they are, why they matter, and what healthcare organizations need to know about them.
  • Evaluating the IT infrastructure: How to optimize IT in compliance with new standards, without having to start from scratch.
  • Measuring technology investments: How to calculate cost saving and ROI, and how to know if the organization is achieving its business objectives.
  • Action Steps to Take Today: Six practical steps for getting started

"The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) is the single most significant piece of legislation to affect the healthcare industry since HIPAA was enacted in 1996," says Charlene Marietti, Director of Corporate Editorial Initiatives of the Vendome Group, publishers of Healthcare Informatics. "It's critical that hospitals are not only aware of the implications, but have an informed practical strategy on how to proceed."

"Our colleagues in healthcare need guidance to help them sort out and understand ARRA's requirements for funding, and an action plan that will get their IT framework in line with the stimulus bill's requirements, today--even as those parameters are being finalized," says Gerry Bartley, President of Healthcare Informatics Associates, an InfoLogix company. "Based on the hundreds of EMR module implementations that HIA has conducted over the past two decades, we've pinpointed six action steps that hospitals need to take today in order to position themselves to receive the maximum ARRA stimulus funding available, and we're providing this information free of charge in a new webinar, as a service to the healthcare community."

The webinar will take place Thursday, June 25 at 12 p.m. ET. To learn more and register, please visit www.infologix.com/stimulus.
