Dr. Richard C. Howe brings experience as CIO and HIMSS executive; Shirley Hughes brings extensive clinical management background to healthcare consulting and mobility company

HATBORO, Pa., March 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- InfoLogix, Inc. (Nasdaq: IFLG), a leading technology provider of enterprise mobility solutions for the healthcare and commercial industries, today announced that Richard C. Howe, Ph.D., has joined Healthcare Informatics Associates (HIA), an InfoLogix company, as Vice President of Business Development, and Shirley Hughes has been appointed to the post of Vice President of Healthcare Consulting.

Leveraging his broad industry expertise, Howe will work with executive leadership to help current and new customers meet their IT goals in planning, selecting, and implementing wireless electronic medical records (EMRs) and other patient care technology.

"I am thrilled to join Healthcare Informatics Associates (HIA) and the team at InfoLogix," says Howe. "Over the past 25 years, I have seen major healthcare technology initiatives come to pass, but the advanced healthcare systems consulting and mobility solutions from InfoLogix resonated with me as most effective in fulfilling the major unmet need to improve patient care and reduce medical errors in hospitals. The company is well positioned to help the industry overcome the paradigm technological shift that is about to occur, and I look forward to leading their efforts towards creating a more advanced healthcare system."

Howe brings two decades of industry experience to InfoLogix, having previously served as a consultant, a CIO at university hospitals, and the National President of Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) from 1996-1997. Prior to his appointment with InfoLogix, he was Vice President of First Consulting Group and Partner at Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC). He has also served as President of eHealth Ventures and Vice President of Professional Services at MedPlus, Inc., where he was responsible for the design and launch of a physician portal electronic medical record product.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Howe was the CIO at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, and at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. He has published more than 50 technical and scientific articles and is a frequent speaker at industry events. Howe received his BA, U.S. Army Commission, at the University of Colorado, and his Ph.D. in Medical Physiology from the University of California.

"We are glad to welcome Richard to our team," says Gerry Bartley, President of HIA and Executive Vice President of Healthcare Consulting of InfoLogix. "Richard is an important and strategic addition to our nationwide team of consultants, most of whom have more than 20 years of clinical and technical expertise. With his in-hospital expertise, we are confident he will bring the highest degree of service during his tenure with us, and provide InfoLogix customers with the necessary tools and expertise to enhance the patient experience."

With an extensive clinical and management background, Shirley Hughes will be responsible for operations of the nationwide HIA consulting team in her new role as Vice President of Healthcare Consulting.

Hughes brings three decades of industry experience in clinical systems and management. Prior to HIA, she was Vice President of Client Services and Director of Business Development for a major healthcare technology firm, as well as Director of Marketing, Product Management and Advanced Technology with several hospital software vendors.

Hughes has been widely recognized for providing leadership to healthcare and information systems businesses in developing and applying new solutions for clinical information systems to support the people who deliver healthcare. She has extensive experience in working with various vendor systems including Epic, Cerner, Eclipsys, IDX, McKesson, Epic, cytopathology systems, perioperative systems, image analysis, telemedicine and numerous other clinical software packages.

In addition to her HIMSS membership, Hughes is a past member of the Board for the Center for Healthcare Information Management (CHIM) and is credited with over 40 articles and speaking engagements, including presentations for the Department of Health and Human Services Commission on Nursing, New York University, HIMSS, University of Maryland, The Queens Medical Center, and University of Virginia Health Sciences Center.

"We looked all around the country at candidates for the VP of Healthcare Consulting position, and found that there is no one more experienced, qualified, personable and knowledgeable than our own Shirley Hughes," says Bartley. "Shirley demonstrates unique leadership in applying technologies and software to the healthcare environment in such a way as to positively impact the way healthcare professionals care for patients while monitoring the costs and effectiveness of the care provided. With Shirley's vision and guidance, we're confident that HIA will continue to set the bar for enabling hospitals across North America to unlock the full value of their clinical system investments."
