Indiana Drug Card to Provide Free Drug Cards to Residents
Date:7/28/2009

INDIANAPOLIS, July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- A new statewide prescription assistance program, called Indiana Drug Card, is being launched today. The program, which will provide free drug cards to all Indiana residents, will provide pharmacy discounts on prescription drugs. This program has no restrictions on membership, no income requirements, no age limitations, and there are no applications to fill out. Indiana Drug Card is accepted at over 50,000 pharmacy locations across the country.

Hoosiers can download a "FREE" card by visiting WWW.INDIANADRUGCARD.COM. Anyone not able to access the website, or otherwise obtain a member card, can visit any CVS/pharmacy location in Indiana. Simply ask the pharmacy to process your prescription through the Indiana Drug Card program. Residents can also obtain cards at various health centers, clinics, businesses, and other card distribution sites that will be set up across the State.

Indiana Drug Card was launched to help the uninsured and underinsured citizens of Indiana afford their prescription medications. However, the program can also be used by people who have health insurance coverage with no prescription benefits, which is common in many health savings accounts (HSA) and high deductible health plans. Additionally, people who have prescription coverage can use this program for non-formulary or non-covered drugs.

Indiana Drug Card is being funded through the participation of pharmacies and pharmaceutical companies. The program is also receiving support from the public and private sectors. The Indiana Association of Cities and Towns (IACT), is working with the program to create awareness. "We encourage all residents to take advantage of the opportunity to help offset the rising costs of prescription drugs purchased in Indiana," said IACT Executive Director Matthew C. Greller. "The Indiana Drug Card is open to all residents and everyone should be able to benefit from this program at some point."

The Indiana Drug Card is a solution to the confusing maze of discount prescription programs that have appeared in recent years. Many of these programs only cover certain drugs, charge fees, and some have membership restrictions such as age and income requirements. Indiana residents can download a free card, search drug pricing, and locate participating pharmacies at WWW.INDIANADRUGCARD.COM.
