Independence Blue Cross Enhances Blue Cross Broad Street Run Website, Adds Incentives, Training Videos, and Tips

Helping its members every step of the way, IBC offers those who run 10 free credits toward $150 fitness reimbursement

PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The weather may still be chilly, but excitement for the 30th annual Blue Cross Broad Street Run is heating up as runners across the region begin to sign up and train for the nation's largest 10-mile race to be held May 3 in Philadelphia.

To inspire its members who plan to run, Independence Blue Cross (IBC) has greatly enhanced its website for the run with superior fitness tools to help train and motivate runners of all abilities. New this year are training videos by two-time Olympian runner Vicki Huber-Rudawsky; an interactive race map that calculates a runner's mileage, calories burned, and expected finish time at each mile marker; and updated training tips. The title sponsor of the race for the past 13 years, IBC will also continue its "10 for 10" program launched last year. Under the program, eligible members who finish the race can receive credit for 10 gym visits, good towards the $150 Healthy Lifestyles gym membership reimbursement. Members may sign up for the benefit on the race website and will automatically receive their credits when they complete the race.

"We all know that exercise is one of the most effective ways to help preserve good health and extend life, and that's why we support the Blue Cross Broad Street Run," said Joseph A. Frick, IBC president and CEO, who participated in the race for the first time last year. "The run is just one way we encourage the community and our members to get physically active. It appears to be working: in the last four years, the number of people who signed up to run has increased by 50 percent to 22,000, and the number of our members who registered increased by 75 percent to
