Increased Access to Fertility Care in Northern Virginia Continues as Shady Grove Fertility Welcomes Reproductive Endocrinologist Brad Swelstad, M.D., to the Practice

Shady Grove Fertility (SGF) welcomes reproductive endocrinologist, Brad Swelstad, M.D., to the practice’s Virginia medical team, seeing patients at SGF’s Woodbridge, VA location. Dr. Swelstad will provide patients in Woodbridge, VA with a full range of state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment options for female and male infertility, as well as elective fertility preservation, oncofertility care prior to cancer treatment, LGBTQ family building, and advanced fertility treatments including IVF.

Brad B. Swelstad, M.D., earned his Doctorate of Medicine from St. George’s University and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. He then went on to complete a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Swelstad received a Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) stem cell research grant during his postdoctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins for his work related to germline stem cells in the adult human ovary.

As a former Howard Hughes medical scholar, Dr. Swelstad has received several academic and clinical honors during his career, including Outstanding Resident in OBGYN, and the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society Scholarship, a merit-based award for excellence in research. He has served as both medical director of a fertility practice and university clinical instructor for OBGYN residents.

Dr. Swelstad is an active participant in reproductive and infertility research, but finds his true calling is caring for patients and helping them build families. He strives to give personalized care while helping each individual patient navigate the treatment options tailored to their specific needs.
