About one in six Boomers have a hearing loss, according to the Better Hearing Institute, a not-for-profit educational group. "They're the first of that rock 'n' roll generation to really grow up with loud music," said Sharon Beamer, the associate director of audiology professional practices for ASHA. Additionally, more people are losing their hearing earlier in life. The AARP reports that there are more people age 45 to 64 with hearing loss (10 million) than there are people over 65 with hearing loss (9 million).

The problem is that for those who do have some hearing loss, hearing aids are simply out of reach for many consumers. Most insurance plans do not cover them and prices are often in the thousands of dollars.
