Impac Software and BioImagene Develop Workflow Solution for Digital Pathology and the Laboratory Information Systems

Impac's PowerPath(R) AP LIS to Interface with BioImagene's Virtuoso(TM) Digital Pathology Solution

SUNNYVALE and CUPERTINO, Calif., March 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Impac Software, part of the Elekta Group and leading provider of software solutions for anatomic pathology (AP) laboratories, and BioImagene, provider of innovative digital pathology solutions, today announced the development of an interface between PowerPath(R), Impac Software's AP laboratory information system (LIS), and Virtuoso(TM), BioImagene's digital pathology solution. The new interface provides an optimized workflow for digital slide imaging and analysis, case management and reporting.

Dr. Ajit Singh, BioImagene CEO comments, "Virtuoso is a role-based system that enables the various roles - pathologist, histo-technologist, lab administrator, clinician - to improve the efficiency and quality of the various steps in the anatomic pathology workflow. The Virtuoso PowerPath integration will benefit our laboratory customers further as they now have access to complete case history in a digital format improving the quality of results reported to the clinician.

"Digital pathology is a great application of digital imaging science, and is, indeed, defining new capabilities, efficiencies, workflows and boundaries in the anatomic pathology laboratory," says George Rugg, SVP and General Manager of Impac's LIS business unit. "The work BioImagene is doing contributes significantly to those advancements."

"We are pleased to be working with BioImagene to interface their Virtuoso solution to PowerPath," says Rugg. "Our relationship with companies such as BioImagene shows our continuing commitment to integrate proven technologies with PowerPath to bring data together from multiple systems."

Demonstrations of the new PowerPath and Virtuoso interface will be available at March 9-11 at the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) Annual Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts. PowerPath demonstrations also will be available at the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) Pathology Update 2009 conference, March 13-15, in Sydney, Australia and the Lab InfoTech Summit March 16-18 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
