If You're Pregnant, Drinking Can Lead to Your Child's Death
Date:6/11/2013

Miami, FL (PRWEB) June 11, 2013

A recent study published by WebMD on 2/26/13, found that one in six SIDS deaths was linked to mothers who had drinking issues. For this study, the researchers evaluated nearly 78,000 live births from 1983 to 2005. They found nearly 22,000 of the mothers had an alcohol diagnosis such as acute alcohol intoxication or dependence. "Maternal alcohol-use disorder is a significant risk factor for SIDS and infant mortality," wrote researcher Colleen O'Leary of Curtin University in Perth, and colleagues.

As tragic as it is when someone loses their life due to an addiction, it is even more so when an innocent child dies from their mother's dependency. The importance of seeking professional counseling and assistance from a detox center cannot be understated. A premier detox facility, Harbor Village has developed safe, effective individualized plans to address an expectant mother's alcohol addiction, which serve to guide her on the road to a sober life.

David P. Phillips, a professor of sociology at the University of California, San Diego, has also found that there is a connection between a parent's alcohol consumption and SIDS deaths. As alcohol drinking increases such as on holidays and weekends, so do the number of SIDS deaths, he reported."We know that when people are under the influence of alcohol, they perform tasks much more poorly," he said.

“One third of all Americans will experience an alcohol use problem in their lives. Alcoholism can damage one's liver, weaken the immune system and cause a host of other health issues. We ask that anyone who suffers from this dependency to contact an addiction detox center such as Harbor Village to start the recovery process,” said Robert Niznik, Harbor Village CEO.

Alcohol addiction can quickly spiral out of control and cost a problem drinker their career, freedom and even their life. For most drug and alcohol addicts, a modern detox facility offering a personalized program designed specifically for each client is the only solution. Harbor Village, a 24/7 professionally supervised detox center allows each client to experience detoxification in a luxury, state-of-the art environment. Located in South Florida, clients are welcomed with upscale accommodations including a suite complete with television and headphones, 30,000 square feet of outdoor lounge area, salon, spa and massage services, acupuncture treatment, nutritious, gourmet dining and a results proven, individualized plan for recovery.
