NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Nov. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- IPC The Hospitalist Company, Inc. (Nasdaq: IPCM), a leading national hospitalist physician group practice, today announced financial results for the third quarter ended September 30, 2009.

Third Quarter 2009 Highlights (comparisons are to third quarter 2008):

• Net revenue increased 23% to $77.5 million, with same-market area net revenue growth of 20%
• Patient encounters increased 19% to 823,000
• Income from operations rose 38% to $7.4 million
• Operating margin improved 110 basis points to 9.6%
• Net income increased 47% to $4.6 million, or $0.28 per diluted share
  

Nine Months Ended September 30, 2009 Highlights (comparisons are to the nine months ended September 30, 2008)

• Net revenue increased 25% to $228.4 million, with same-market area net revenue growth of 20%
• Patient encounters increased 19% to 2,429,000
• Income from operations rose 41% to $22.0 million
• Operating margin improved 110 basis points to 9.6%
• Net income increased 49% to $13.3 million, or $0.81 per diluted share
