Alexandria, Va. The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) is presenting its 2009 Oral Medicine & Pathology Research Award to Dr. Cun-Yu Wang, from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), USA. The award will be presented at the IADR 87th General Session & Exhibition in Miami, Florida, USA, April 1, 2009.

Dr. Wang obtained his D.D.S. from Peking University, Beijing, China, in 1989, and a Ph.D. in genetics and molecular biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA, in 1998. The following year, he joined the University of Michigan School of Dentistry as an associate professor, and he was rapidly promoted to an endowed full professor in 2004. Currently, he is professor and chair in the Division of Oral Biology and Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Dr. Wang has made ground-breaking discoveries in cancer therapy, which include resistance achievements in molecular signaling and therapeutics of oral cancer, molecular regulation of oral inflammation and infection, and understanding of adult human stem cells and craniofacial regeneration. His research publications are highly cited at the international level.

One of the 16 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards, the Oral Medicine & Pathology Research Award is one of the highest honors bestowed by IADR. The Award is supported by Sunstar Americas, Inc. and recognizes outstanding and sustained peerreviewed research that has contributed to the understanding of the mechanisms governing the health and disease of the oral cavity and associated structures, principally encompassing skin, bone, and the oral soft tissue. Dr. Wang will receive a monetary prize and a plaque.
