HydroWorx Webinar Features Innovative Merging of Physical and Speech Therapies in Aquatic Environment
Date:12/1/2015

Speech and physical therapies are traditionally conducted in separate environments; however, there are professionals who believe that with innovative technologies and under the right circumstances, these practices can be merged. This combination of services allows the patient to get the benefit of a dual-approach to his or her therapeutic sessions, as well as gives the physical and speech therapists a novel way to help patients make progress, even after they have seemingly plateaued.

At Pullman Regional Hospital in Washington State, physical therapist Timothy Williams, PT, DPT, and speech and language pathologist Ambyr Henderson, MS, CCC-SLP, employ creative dual-treatment methods to improve client results. Notably, Williams and Henderson have joined forces in their facility’s advanced therapy pool with underwater treadmill to facilitate more comprehensive, holistic outcomes among some populations. In particular, their treatment of a 3-year-old boy recovering from a brain tumor made headlines when the team won the 2015 Healthcare Excellence in Aquatics Award on behalf of Pullman Regional Hospital’s Summit Therapy & Health Services.

Webinar Educates on Effective Co-Treatment Therapy Options

To help other physical therapy and speech therapy professionals understand how to better work together in water-based environments, Williams and Henderson will be presenting a HydroWorx sponsored webinar on Thursday, December 3, 2015, from 1-2 p.m. E.S.T. The event, “Innovative Co-Treatment Therapy Combining Physical and Speech Therapies in an Aquatic Environment”, will focus on advancing patient care models, both in the field of pediatrics as well as in other patient populations.

This one-hour webinar will have several emphases:

  • To show how a combined approach to speech and physical therapies in the warm-water pool can enhance the therapeutic process and potentially provide results beyond typical expectations.
  • To discuss the case history, treatment approach, and motor and cognitive results for their highlighted pediatric case, as well as to expand this discussion to include group therapy trials.
  • To help attendees understand the applied treatment protocols through images and videos.

Participants of “Innovative Co-Treatment Therapy Combining Physical and Speech Therapies in an Aquatic Environment,” can expect to understand several key factors at the completion of this webinar:

  • How to identify and implement the components that make up a thorough, aquatics-based co-treatment model.
  • What the possibilities are for future applications of this type of combined speech and physical therapy in an aquatic atmosphere.

Registering for This Webinar

“Innovative Co-Treatment Therapy Combining Physical and Speech Therapies in an Aquatic Environment” is free to the public, but registration is required. Interested clinical professionals should sign up online at the HydroWorx website before the start of the event on December 3, 2015, at 1 p.m.
