When snorers seek information on how to stop snoring, they are deluged with anti-snoring devices, dental devices and stop snoring surgery procedures. But the way to stop snoring may be as simple as a dime’s worth of tape!
Although there are simple ways to prevent snoring, patients who could be helped avoid seeking medical help, because they “don’t want surgery.”
Dr Martin Hopp of Cedars Sinai Hospital tells of the patient who cried when he was told that simply elevating his nasal tip when he sleeps would end his snoring. Tearfully he said, “If only I had known about this years ago. I thought the only treatment for snoring was surgery!” Another patient had a similar reaction when he learned that using a tennis ball was his cure for snoring!
Why should you stop snoring? The main answer is that, simple snoring for whatever reason, can become worse because the snoring causes weight gain and other changes which makes snoring worse when the snoring continues.
For centuries snoring has been the butt of jokes by comedians. But snoring can be seriously detrimental to health. Fatigue, hypertension, and depression have all been caused by snoring. Snoring results in weight gain because the next day you need candy for energy to combat your fatigue. Every medical condition is made worse by poor sleep.
Today scientists have measured the serious effects both to the snorer and the partner. You don’t have happy wedded bliss when one partner must sleep in another room.
Snoring interferes with good sleep. When there is interruption of sleep, the next day there is reduced energy and sleeping on the job. Poor sleep is a major cause of traffic and industrial accidents.
