How to Save Money on Health Insurance
Date:12/11/2008

It's In the Mail: Or at least, it should be. If you have regular prescriptions, order them via mail. Mail order pharmacies generally allow you to purchase 90-day supplies of medications at the same price you generally pay for a 30-day supply, and most doctors are aware of this, and are happy to write 90-day prescriptions.

Seek Advice: Emergency room co-pays are generally more than double those for regular office visits, and sometimes as much as five times higher. Obviously, if you have serious symptoms that require urgent care you should go to the emergency room, but if you suspect that you're suffering from a relatively minor condition that can wait until your doctor is back in the office, you'll save a lot of money by doing so. If you aren't sure, most insurance plans offer you access to some kind of advice nurse, who may be able to help rule out whether something is truly emergent.

Health insurance isn't something you should be without if you can help it. It can be expensive, but it's the sort of expense that is worth having, and a medical emergency when you don't have insurance is far more expensive than the cost of any premium.
