New Survey Reveals Favorite and Least Favorite Body Parts: Our Faces are Fabulous; Tummies are Trouble

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Faces and abs top the list of favorite and least favorite body parts, respectively, among both men and women, according to a new survey conducted by American Laser Centers, the largest provider of non-invasive aesthetic services in the U.S.

Nearly a quarter of the men (24 percent) and women (23 percent) indicated their faces were the favorite part of their bodies. Fourteen percent of men preferred their arms and 15 percent of women preferred their breasts. Approximately 22 percent of both men and women said they did not have a favorite body part.

When it comes to trouble spots, both men (32 percent) and women (22 percent) cited their abs/stomach as the least favorite body part. Interestingly, while most women chose their face as the favorite body part, 17 percent indicated it was the least favorite body part. Also notable, 26 percent of men said they did not have a least favorite body part, compared to only 16 percent of women.

The survey also revealed that half of women made a New Year's resolution to improve their bodies this year, compared with 34 percent of men. Exercise and diet topped the list of how both men and women will try to improve their bodies, followed by cosmetic treatments.

"Since we can't hide our faces, most people make an effort to put their best face forward, as the saying goes. And that's relatively easy to do with makeup, skin care and cosmetic treatments, such as microdermabrasion or skin rejuvenation," said Dr. David Turok, medical director at American Laser Centers. "Abs, on the other hand, are not only easier to hide, but much more difficult to aesthetically improve. Flabby bellies build up over time and even with strict diet and intense exercise this area can be difficult to tone."

There were approximately 575 total respondents to the independent electronic survey. Complete results can be downloaded at www.americanlaser.com/survey/survey.pdf.
