Houlihan Smith to Host Illinois Venture Capital Association Luncheon Seminar on Midwest Healthcare Investing
Date:4/3/2009

CHICAGO, April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Houlihan Smith & Company, Inc. will host an upcoming Illinois Venture Capital Association luncheon seminar on "Healthcare Investing: Midwest Home-Grown Successes." The event will be held at the UBS Tower, One North Wacker Drive in Chicago, at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 22.

Reginald McGaugh, Managing Director, will moderate the event, which will feature a panel discussion with executives from some of the most successful companies in the Midwest healthcare sector. Topics will include recent M&A activity and the paradigm shift in the healthcare market, along with emerging trends, Midwest success stories, and what lies ahead.

The discussion will include a presentation by Smart Medical Technology, Inc., (SMT) whose featured product is the patented and FDA-approved Liftaem(TM) lateral patient transfer system. Based in Darien, Illinois, SMT has developed a convenient transfer mat that is placed on a hospital bed or gurney and inflated with a portable air compressor. The system allows one nurse or clinician, instead of a team of six to eight people, to safely transfer elderly, obese, injured, or critically ill patients at a hospital, surgery center, skilled nursing home, assisted living center, and any other acute care setting.

McGaugh heads the Global Healthcare Markets Group at Houlihan Smith. He has extensive experience and relationships in the healthcare sector, including biotechnology firms, medical device manufacturers, providers, and managed care companies. McGaugh's experience also includes the energy, telecommunications, and transportation sectors. Along with his focus and expertise on healthcare, he also directs clients on the advisory side of deals structured in compliance with Islamic Law (Shariah Compliant) as Houlihan Smith expands into Africa and the Middle East.
