Hospitals Announce Labor Web Site Now in Spanish

STANFORD, Calif., Aug. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Stanford Hospital & Clinics and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital today announced that http://www.stanfordpackardfacts.com, an online resource regarding labor representation, is now available in Spanish.

"The interest in the English version of this Web site has been tremendous," said Lori Curry, vice president of human resources for Stanford Hospital & Clinics. "To make a Spanish version available to our employees just made sense."

On Sept. 10 and Sept. 11, Hospital employees formerly represented by SEIU Local 715 will vote to select new union representation or to remain independent.

"With over 100 unique visitors to the Web site daily, clearly our employees are looking for information so that they can make an educated vote," said Greg Souza, vice president of human resource for Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. "We hope that through this site they will find the facts needed regarding this important issue."

SEIU Local 715 had been representing approximately 1,450 housekeepers, food service workers, nursing assistants, phlebotomists, unit secretaries, transporters and employees in non-technical and non-professional titles at the hospitals. Because the International Union directed the leadership of Local 715 to transfer employee representation to United Healthcare Workers without the employees' consent, the Hospitals were left with no option but to withdraw recognition of Local 715 effective July 28, 2008.
