Hospice By The Bay Offers Health Care Professionals Free Training in End-of-Life Care

at the end of life. As the Bay Area's community resource on end-of-life care, Hospice By The Bay wants to improve the quality of care for all terminally ill patients by helping train their health care professionals."

The trainings cover topics in geriatric and pediatric end-of-life care, including: how to achieve quality care at the end of life; nursing care at the end of life; pain and symptom assessment and management; cultural considerations; ethical issues; communication; preparation for and care at the time of death; and coping with loss, grief, and bereavement. The ELNEC curriculum was designed by researchers, educators, authors and other national leaders in the field of hospice and palliative care, through grants from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing and the City of Hope, and from the Archstone Foundation.

Ten Hospice By The Bay staff have been certified as trainers in the ELNEC curriculum through funds from the Mount Zion Health Fund, which established the Dr. Robert T. Mendel Memorial Nursing Fund, and the Frank A. Campini Foundation. Hospice's ongoing training of its staff and other health care professionals is also funded by the Campini Foundation, with additional monies from the George H. Sandy Foundation, and the Nickel vs. Bank of America Second Settlement Fund.
