Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey and Jersey City Medical Center announced today the signing of a Letter of Intent to develop an innovative, value-based program to launch in late 2013. The goals of the initiative are to improve quality outcomes, provide a better patient experience and lower the cost of care for Horizon BCBSNJ members in Hudson County.
“We look forward to successfully developing a patient-centered program with Jersey City Medical Center to help ensure our members receive high-quality, efficient health care services,” said Jim Albano, Vice President of Network Management and Horizon Healthcare Innovations at Horizon BCBSNJ.
“Jersey City Medical Center has long been the provider of the highest quality of care in Hudson County. In collaboration with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, we believe that we will be able to improve the overall quality of patient care delivered in Hudson County,” said Joseph F. Scott, President and CEO of Jersey City Medical Center.
Horizon BCBSNJ has a number of patient-centered programs, including Accountable Care Organizations, Patient-Centered Medical Homes, and programs focused on Episodes of Care (i.e. joint replacement). More than 320,000 members and 1,400 doctors are participating in Horizon BCBSNJ’s patient-centered programs that are working to improve patient care while controlling costs.
Jersey City Medical Center is the only hospital in Hudson County that provides comprehensive cardiac services, including open heart surgery, and also provides comprehensive trauma services, neonatal intensive care, and orthopedic specialty care.
