Home Care Assistance – Halton/Peel Region Weighs in on Alberta Communities Receiving Funding to Support Seniors and Senior Caregivers

Toronto, Canada (PRWEB) July 25, 2014

Home Care Assistance – Halton/Peel Region (, the area’s leading provider of non-medical, in-home senior care, is weighing in on the recent announcement that the federal government will be supporting senior-led projects in Alberta through their New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP).

The New Horizons for Seniors Program is a federal grants and contributions program that supports projects led or inspired by seniors who make a difference in the lives of others and in their communities. The NHSP will receive over $33.0 million from the federal government spread out across 1,700 community-based projects aimed at improving seniors’ quality of life and educating caregivers.

”The funding of these programs is a great way to educate and support the caregivers that are making a difference in their community,” says Rick Heinz, owner of Home Care Assistance – Halton/Peel Region. “Part of what the program provides is a central location for caregivers to meet and share their experiences. It removes the feelings of isolation that can be prevalent amongst some caregivers, and lets them know they have their own community of support.”

The NHSP has funded over 13,000 projects across Canada. A plan has also been proposed that would see the program receive an additional $5.0 million each year to allocate towards projects that would aid seniors.

“We at Home Care Assistance – Halton/Peel Region are glad to see community-led projects in Alberta getting funding to continue their elder care services,” Heinz concludes. “Adequate senior care is necessary across the country and will need continued support.”
