Home Care Assistance – Halton/Peel Region Announces Tips to Protect Skin from UV Rays
Date:8/18/2014

Toronto, Canada (PRWEB) August 18, 2014

Home Care Assistance – Halton/Peel Region (http://www.GreaterTorontoHomeCare.com), the area’s leading provider of non-medical, in-home senior care, is announcing proactive steps everyone can take to help protect skin from harmful UV rays.

“Incidences of skin cancer have risen drastically over the decades, with over three million new cases worldwide each year. In the U.S. alone, the cases of skin cancer have increased over 200% in the last four decades,” says Rick Heinz, owner of Home Care Assistance – Halton/Peel Region. “It’s been declared a major health concern by the U.S Surgeon General, which means it’s a situation that needs special attention.”

Heinz also worries that of the three million worldwide cases of skin cancer, over 132,000 are melanoma, which is the most fatal form of the disease. He insists that people must take precautions even as the summer nears its end.

“There are some very simple rules that everyone can follow without much effort: stay away from tanning beds; seek the shade whenever possible, particularly when standing still; and wear a hat,” he adds.

Heinz notes that the final preventative measure that should be taken is to wear sunscreen. SPF is not only for beach goers; it should be applied every time anyone steps outside.

“Caregivers should take extra precaution with seniors,” he explains. “Part of elder care is reminding a loved one or the senior in one’s care to make sure they are following these steps.”

“Early detection also plays an important part in defeating the disease. A full body and skin check once a year should be mandatory, along with knowing the ABCDEs, which are possible indicators of skin cancer,” Heinz concludes. “If you have moles that are Asymmetrical in shape, have an uneven Border, inconsistent Colour throughout, a Diameter larger than a quarter inch, or an Evolving shape, then schedule a dermatologist appointment.”
