PITTSBURGH, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield's two products offered through its subsidiary, Keystone Health Plan West, are among "America's Best Health Plans," according to U.S. News & World Report / National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) America's Best Health Plans 2007.
SecurityBlue, Highmark's Medicare Advantage plan was the highest ranked Medicare plan in Pennsylvania and ranked 14th out of 151 health plans throughout the country. In addition, KeystoneBlue HMO was also ranked the highest commercial plan in Pennsylvania and was ranked 22nd out of more than 300 plans nationally. Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield's KeystoneBlue HMO product also received recognition as a top performing 'Blue' plan in the fall 2007 Blue Cross Blue Shield Association Report "2007 CAHPS(R) Results." CAHPS is a member satisfaction survey conducted annually by all plans accredited through NCQA. KeystoneBlue HMO placed in the top five among 'Blues' plans in the following categories: How well doctors communicate, claims processing, and ratings of health care, specialist and the health plan.

Several factors determine the rankings such as clinical performance, member satisfaction and NCQA accreditation. Highmark has shown marked improvement in the rates of health screening among its members. Childhood and adolescent combination 2 immunization rates among commercial HMO members are over 85 percent compared nationally to 79.8 percent and 57.7 percent respectively.
This is the third consecutive year that NCQA and U.S. News & World Report have worked together to compile top rankings. The print edition of the magazine will begin to appear on newsstands Oct. 27.
