Date:11/12/2007

disparity - a six-fold difference - in the first week of life," said Kay M. Tomashek, MD, MPH, a researcher at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the paper's lead author.

Differences in Mortality Between Late-Preterm and Term Singleton Infants in the United States, 1995-2002, is being published in the November 2007 Journal of Pediatrics, Vol. 151, No. 5.

Today, the March of Dimes concluded its month-long "Every Baby Has a Story" tour with a final stop at Times Square in New York City. The tour helped raise awareness nationwide by visiting 16 cities and collecting thousands of baby stories - of babies born healthy as well as those who need help to survive and thrive. People can add stories at http://www.marchofdimes.com/everybaby.

The March of Dimes works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. For more information, visit marchofdimes.com or nacersano.org for Spanish.
