Highbridge Community Life Center Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for New Health Careers/Education Facility in the Bronx
Date:9/8/2009

Expanding facility will provide training for health careers and other adult educational programs to residents in the Highbridge area of the Bronx

BRONX, N.Y., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Highbridge Community Life Center (HCLC) will officially open the newest addition to the non-profit agency on September 10, 2009 at 10 A.M., with a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony at the facility. Located at 1438 Ogden Ave., over 9,000 feet of space on the ground floor of this recently constructed building will house Health Careers Training and Adult Education.

"The addition of this space provides HCLC the opportunity to consolidate its health careers and education programs into one location which will ultimately provide a more integrated and efficient learning environment, and will enable us to increase enrollment by 10%," says Sr. Ellenrita Purcaro, Executive Director. "Its strategic location will allow HCLC to reach out to neighboring residents in the Bronx and Manhattan, who are interested in these training programs. Thanks to the stimulus package funds and funding from several foundations and New York City agencies, we are able to take our efforts in health careers training and adult education to the next level."

In partnership with the Robin Hood Foundation, HCLC was able to build this state-of-the-art facility. The classroom curriculum is built around innovative technology, including the use of SMART Boards. The effective use of digital technology in health care careers and adult education will maximize student achievement with enhanced career opportunities. The NY State Education Department (NYSED) ranks HCLC's adult education programs in the top quartile in effectiveness for state funded programs and according to the NYS Department of Labor, demand for trained workers in the health sector is expected to continue to grow over the next decade.
