"All medical buildings are dedicated to healthcare delivery and will be built to support our mission of service," said Seaver. "Using these buildings in this way will free-up valuable hospital space for more patient beds and clinical programs/services. And because operating services out of a medical building rather than a hospital costs less, the hospital will save money that as a not-for-profit we can reinvest back into the facility toward improvements, new services, capital equipment and staffing."
Henry Mayo's new campus is being designed to not only meet all environmental impact requirements but to balance the need for growth with neighborhood quality-of-life issues such as noise, traffic and lighting. All expansion will take place on the existing hospital medical campus.
With more than 1,100 employees, Henry Mayo is currently the fifth largest employer in the Santa Clarita Valley. It is anticipated that the new construction will have a significant, positive economic impact on the community in terms of business revenue, wages and taxes. It will also add to more long-term, high-wage jobs.
Seaver said that the hospital's goal is to begin architectural plans for the hospital immediately, begin construction on the first medical office building in 2009, and break ground on the new patient wing within four years. The $300 million project will be funded through operations, bonds and philanthropy through Henry Mayo ($200 million) plus private investment by G&L Realty ($100 million).
