Heirloom Solutions Donates Started Plants to Local Retirement & Group Homes

Thomson, IL (PRWEB) May 29, 2013

Over the past week, Heirloom Solutions has visited three local retirement homes and one local group home to deliver started plants to residents. The man arranging all of these visits to local retirement homes is former pastor and chaplain, Ron Abbott. Currently Ron works as a customer service representative for Heirloom Solutions in Thomson, Illinois.

Abbott earned his Bachelor’s degree in Theology from what is now referred to as Mount Vernon Bible College. He spent several years as the pastor of York Community Church in Thomson and then he moved over to become the assistant pastor for the Church of God in Mount Carroll, Illinois, and most recently served as the chaplain for Good Samaritan Society-Mount Carroll.

Heirloom Solutions has made educating the public and distributing heirloom seeds their business. They distribute heirloom seeds across the country through their website. On a local level, they grow started plants from seed in their greenhouse that they sell, in addition to the prepacked seeds, through their storefront in Thomson.

They believe in only selling open-pollinated, non-GMO heirloom seeds. Their website,, talks about how they believe two distinct advantages of heirloom seeds are that they have both more flavor and more nutrients than non-heirloom plant varieties.

Heirloom Solutions hopes that the assortment of vegetables, herbs, and flowers donated to these nursing homes and group homes can be used as projects to keep the residents entertained and engaged. “I have been around nursing homes and assisted living facilities for a long time. I know how important it is to the residents to continually provide some activities to keep everyone’s spirits up. Plants can either be a good use for education or reminders of how things used to be,” says Abbott. He went on to mention how he hopes that ultimately the started vegetables and herbs could be used in the meals created for the residents.

“At Good Samaritan Society-Mount Carroll, our gardening group enjoys planting, tending and harvesting the plants in their raised gardens. The herbs are so fragrant and our residents will get a lot of pleasure watching the vegetables and flowers grow. Thank you for donating this wonderful assortment of heirloom plants,” said Anna Gray, Resource Development Director/Marketing for Good Samaritan Society-Mount Carroll.
