Healthy Workplace Award Nominations Due August 3

ROANOKE, Va., July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Job stress costs U.S. employers $300 billion annually. The Virginia Psychological Association (VPA) and Virginia Academy of Clinical Psychologists (VACP) are recognizing businesses with innovative approaches to curbing this cost by awarding the 2009 VPA/VACP Psychologically Healthy Workplace Awards (PHWA). Monday, August 3 is the deadline to submit nominations.

The awards recognize organizations which have implemented businesses practices designed to simultaneously foster employee health and enhance productivity and workplace performance. The Psychologically Healthy Workplace program highlights a variety of workplaces -- large and small, for profit and non profit -- and evaluates applicants in five areas:

  • Employee involvement
  • Work-Life balance
  • Employee growth and development
  • Health and safety
  • Employee recognition

To apply for an award, organizational representatives of Psychologically Healthy Workplaces can self-nominate by visiting www.phwa.org and clicking on "Apply Now". State-level award winners may later be nominated for a National Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award and Best Practices Honors.
