American Diabetes Association and FoodFit.com team up to make food fun for those with diabetes
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- For people with diabetes, the daily decisions they make about food can have an immediate impact on their health. The American Diabetes Association (ADA), together with The HealthCentral Network's FoodFit.com, launched Diabetes Foodsmart today, a new e-newsletter designed to bring the fun back to food for those with diabetes.
Based on the success of the book Diabetes Fit Food, written by FoodFit founder and president Ellen Haas and published this spring by ADA, the bi-weekly Diabetes Foodsmart e-newsletter offers a fresh, simple, seasonal approach to food with tips and recipes for a healthy lifestyle. The e-newsletter segments include:
-- Healthy Choices - This section helps readers pick foods that meet their nutritional needs and explains why those choices are healthy for people with diabetes because of the foods' nutrient values, carbohydrate and fat content, and more.
-- Meals to Savor - Nationally recognized chefs such as Alice Waters from Chez Panisse, Todd English of Olives, Annie Somerville from Greens and dozens more provide delicious recipes that meet ADA nutrition guidelines. Menus including appetizers, entrees, and salads, can be enjoyed by the entire family, not just the person with diabetes.
-- Live Your Life - This lifestyle section provides special guidance from the ADA for people with diabetes. The information assures readers that they can enjoy wonderful food while managing diabetes, and tells them how.
The newsletter will also include polls, top ten lists of favorite foods and ways to enjoy them, and other interactive elements. Each issue will focus on a seasonal theme, such as Late Summer Vegetables, Back to School, Tailgating, and the Holidays. In this way, the newsletter aims to provide information and ideas that fit into the reader's daily life.
