Stephen M. Weiner, President of the Board of Directors of the HealthWell Foundation commented, "Mary is an experienced executive who knows the healthcare industry from several perspectives. Her skills and experience benefit the Foundation greatly and will assist us in expanding the number of underinsured individuals that we serve each year. We look forward to working with Mary and to the further growth of the HealthWell Foundation under her leadership."

"In these challenging economic times, I am pleased to be working with an organization that strives to bring financial relief to individuals facing chronic and life-limiting illnesses," stated Mary P. Sundeen. "Demand for our program is up 40% this year and, as a result, several of our disease funds are at risk of closing without additional support. I look forward to working on the growth and sustainability of the Foundation so that we can continue to meet rising patient demand and broaden the number of indications we cover."

Ms. Sundeen has 20 years of experience in management, corporate communications and investor relations within the healthcare and biopharmaceutical industries. Prior to joining the HealthWell Foundation, she served as President and Chief Executive Officer of a Maryland hospice. Ms. Sundeen has also served as Vice President and Corporate Officer for GenVec, Inc. (GNVC) and Senior Director of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations for EntreMed, Inc. (ENMD), as well as Director of Public Affairs for the Dent Neurologic Institute, Millard Fillmore Health System in New York.

Ms. Sundeen has been active in the hospice and oncology arenas for the past 12 years and has served as a spokesperson for several corporations that sponsor clinical trials of investigational cancer therapies, including gene therapy, antiangiogenics, cancer vaccines, and monoclonal antibodies.

Since 2003, the HealthWell Foundation® has helped more than 60,000 patients with serious and chronic conditions meet their cost-sharing obligations for treatment. HealthWell is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit association that provides financial assistance to cover the cost of prescription drug coinsurance, co-payments and deductibles, health insurance premiums, and other selected out-of-pocket healthcare costs.
