HealthAware Introduces Its SleepAware Cardiovascular Disease Module
Date:10/22/2007

DENVER, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- HealthAware, a leading supplier of innovative services to healthcare providers, announced today the launch of SleepAware, the newest module in the Company's cardiovascular program. SleepAware is a ground-breaking system that identifies at-risk patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

The program is a further extension of HealthAware's successful cardiovascular program, which exemplifies the Company's mission of promoting early detection and prevention of disease.

An estimated 12 million Americans have OSA. More than half the people who suffer from this condition are overweight and have problems with heavy snoring. OSA is a commonly overlooked illness that impacts more people than diabetes. It is potentially life-threatening and its most common cause is cardiovascular disease.

Greg Gossett, President of HealthAware, believes SleepAware will help hospitals promote their sleep centers to the public. "Our new SleepAware module will greatly assist hospitals who are responding to an important public need by opening sleep center facilities."

Mr. Gossett goes on to say, "SleepAware can add significant new revenue streams to hospitals, but of equal importance will be their ability to improve the health and wellness of patients who are not aware that heart disease is usually the root cause of OSA."

OSA occurs nearly twice as often in middle-aged men than in middle-aged women. It is also more prevalent for African Americans, Hispanics and Pacific Islanders than it is Caucasians. OSA is caused by an airway blockage that typically occurs when the soft tissue in the back of the throat collapses and closes during sleep.

HealthAware's SleepAware module is designed to inspire at-risk, pre-first episodic patients to visit hospitals for consultations. This leads directly to increased patient traffic and revenues for sleep centers, which are becoming a more important service for hospitals looking to enhance their public outreach.

When patients use the online SleepAware module, it considers the following risk factors:

-- Obesity -- Diabetes -- Neck size

-- Loud snoring -- High blood pressure -- Smoking

-- Sleep/fatigue during

the day
