Health First to Host Major Community Event with CPR Day and 5K Saturday, June 8
Date:5/28/2013

Rockledge, FL (PRWEB) May 28, 2013

Health First is pleased to announce an educational and fun community event to help train people how to save a life. Health First’s 5th Annual Free CPR Day and 5K is open to anyone ages 5 and up. This event began five years ago with only 125 people and has grown tremendously since then. This year, 5,000 people are expected to attend this major community event.

“This event has grown so much over the past several years that the American Heart Association (AHA) is looking at implementing similar mass CPR training events in other cities nationwide and that is a true testament to the scope of the impact this event has on our community,” said Health First Training Center Supervisor David Schmitt, EMT-Paramedic.

Health First’s CPR Day and 5K will be held Saturday, June 8 from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. (5K begins at 7 a.m. and CPR training begins at 9 a.m.) at the Space Coast Stadium (located at 5800 Stadium Parkway in Melbourne, FL). The Health First Education & Training Center will provide the American Heart Association's “Friends & Family” CPR and AED Training. To register for the event, visit http://www.HealthFirstOperationCPR.org. For more information, please call 321-434-4380. Registration is required for both the 5K and CPR training. Please note this does not meet most job-required certifications.

“As one of the largest CPR events in Central Florida, Health First is making a difference to work toward achieving our goal of reducing heart disease-related deaths and improving overall health,” Luanne Lumpkins, Metro VP, American Heart Association, Greater Southeast Affiliate.

In 2012 alone, the Heart Center at Health First Holmes Regional Medical Center performed more than 1,000 heart and vascular procedures. “Learning CPR and how to survive a heart attack is just as important as preventing a heart attack,” said Health First Medical Group Cardiologist Dr. Cesar Jara. “At Health First, we help provide the tools the community needs to do both.”

This year’s event will also include:

  • T-shirts for everyone who participates in the CPR training or 5K
  • Magic pizza oven for the kids provided by Pizza Gallery & Grill
  • Balloon artist for kids
  • Heart healthy physician lectures and cooking demonstrations
  • First Flight helicopter landing
  • Brevard County Fire Rescue
  • Blood Mobile
  • Appearance by Manny the Manatee
  • Robotic demonstrations
  • Live music from “Cloud 9 Orchestra”

People who complete the CPR training will also receive:

  • Complimentary ticket to the June 8 Brevard County Manatees baseball game
  • Certificate for a personal gourmet pizza from Pizza Gallery & Grill
  • Certificate of CPR “Friends & Family” training completion
