Broad Bipartisan Support for SCHIP Reauthorization

WASHINGTON, Jan. 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following fact sheet was released today by the Office of the Speaker of the House:

Divided We Fail Partnership (AARP, Business Roundtable, National Federation of Independent Businesses and SEIU)

"On behalf of Divided We Fail, we urge you to act promptly to reauthorize and strengthen the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). Our nation has a duty to give all of our children the best possible start in life. Strengthening SCHIP can help do that, and is an important building block for comprehensive healthcare reform that we need to provide all Americans with affordable health care." "The State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) has been instrumental in providing health care coverage to more than 7 million low-income children. This legislation will secure coverage for those children and add coverage to approximately 4 million more uninsured children, most of whom are eligible for Medicaid or SCHIP but not enrolled. The restructuring of the state allotments, along with the increased funding amounts, will allow states to cover more children while preventing the shortfalls that have recently plagued the program."
