Date:2/2/2009

Name Change Signals Rapid Evolution of Technology, Company

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- SafeMed Inc., the innovative health care analytics company that provides the analytics engine for Google(TM) Health(TM) and other health care leaders, is changing its name to Anvita(TM) Health, effective today.

In addition to the name change, Anvita is introducing several new solutions to solve specific health care business challenges such as total population management, highly accurate risk stratification, and prospective analysis for better plan benefit design.

"Anvita is the Sanskrit word for bridging gaps in understanding, and it very accurately describes what we do," said Anvita Health CEO Richard Noffsinger. "Our software solutions create a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of populations and individuals. Our enhanced 360-degree view identifies immediate and long-term quality improvement opportunities that also save costs."

The name change reflects the company's evolution far beyond its initial focus of drug safety, to now provide a comprehensive view of the patient, and patient populations, clinical decision support (CDS), gaps in care, and prioritizing and recommending patient interventions based upon the highest return in cost savings and quality improvements. This analysis can be done in batch mode or in real time.

Anvita's Real-Time Analysis Enables Timely, High-Return Intervention

Anvita's software solutions are all built upon the Anvita Insight(TM) engine, a powerful and versatile analysis engine that provides all the features necessary for analyzing and reporting on gaps in care, drug safety and other quality care issues, including risk adjustment. The Anvita Insight engine has several other advantages as well:

Real-time analysis: Once new information is entered in or received by an electronic medical record (EMR), personal health record (PHR), or electronic health record (EHR), the real-time function of the Anvita Insight engine immediately analyzes the data to generate new recommendations for improved care, better safety, new cost-savings opportunities, and to intelligently create a new prospective view of the patient with corresponding quality of care opportunities. This might include avoiding an unnecessary radiology test, recommending a vaccine, suggesting more affordable or more effective medications, or identifying new medications with fewer undesirable side effects.

"The most teachable moments to encourage people to adhere to treatment regimens are at the point of care, whether in a physician's office or at the pharmacist's counter," said Ahmed Ghouri, M.D., Anvita Health's co-founder and chief medical officer. "Real-time analysis and delivery of data allows consumers and caregivers to obtain at the point of care, relevant, up-to-the-second information about their treatment options."

In addition to real-time analysis and related provider alerts, Anvita Health can batch-analyze data and provide real-time communications at any point in the patient/provider ecosystem.

More comprehensive data set: Because the Anvita Insight engine can translate non-traditional as well as traditional data sets into computable language, it generates more actionable health intelligence than other analytics engines.

Among the data sets translated are:

  • Consumer terminology used in personal health records
  • Consumer terminology used in health risk assessments
  • Medical claims from insurers
  • Pharmacy claims
  • Lab values
  • Physician electronic medical records

Patient data is standardized into a format that provides the most intelligent and comprehensive patient view across all points in the ecosystem. This new 360-degree view of the patient yields more accurate and beneficial treatment recommendations.

Flexible and extensive Alerts Manager: Anvita Health has an extensive Alerts Manager, a web-based program that allows a health plan, provider organization or disease manager to select and prioritize rules for generating alerts based on return-on-investment, drug safety issues, gaps in care, and other variables.

Superior Analytics Improve Care Outcomes and the Bottom Line

Built upon the Anvita Insight analysis engine are three new tailored solutions:

Medical Management: This solution combines the most advanced clinical decision support available with real-time alert capabilities for patient and providers, and real-time messaging at either the point of care and web or web-enabled mobile platforms to improve quality of care, while minimizing costs for both the patient and the payer.

Analysis and Reporting: Provides retrospective and prospective reports on gaps in care, drug safety, performance measures, and analysis of risk assessment such as Hierarchical Condition Coding (HCC) for Medicare Advantage plans to enable more effective population management and pay for performance (P4P).

Coding Analysis: Includes the discovery and reporting of new, missing or inferred risk-adjustment codes in real time, fraud detection, and an intuitive custom rules authoring resource for more focused analyses.

About Anvita Health: Founded by physicians in 2000, Anvita Health provides innovative health care analytics to its customers who, in aggregate, manage more than 50 million lives. Anvita Health's analysis engine and custom analytics solutions are used by point-of-care information technology systems, health plans, pharmacy benefit managers, disease management companies, personal health record providers, and ambulatory care providers. Anvita Health is headquartered in San Diego, California.
