DETROIT, Nov. 11 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Health Alliance Plan's Medicare HMO is the top-ranked Medicare HMO plan in Michigan, according to the list of America's Best Health Plans in the November 17-24 issue of U.S. News & World Report.

The America's Best Health Plans list was created by the U.S. News Media Group, in collaboration with the National Committee for Quality Assurance.

HAP's Medicare HMO, HAP Senior Plus, was ranked 24 among 216 Medicare health plans nationwide in customer service, preventive services and treating illness. Areas of strong performance include getting needed care quickly, high rating of care received, cancer screenings, diabetes care, monitoring kidney disease, mental and behavioral health, staying on beta blockers after a heart attack, and medication management to avoid drug interactions and complications. In these areas, HAP received overall scores of at least four out of five stars.

"Our recognition is a credit to the top-notch physicians who care for our Medicare members and recognize the power of measurement and public accountability for improving health care quality," said Karen Wintringham, vice president Medicare and Public Sector Programs. "It's also a testament to our HAP Senior Plus members who take their health seriously and make sure they get the preventive care and disease management services they need."

HAP's commercial HMO is also one of America's Best Health Plans, with a ranking of 38 out of 245.

The rankings of America's Best Health Plans are online at http://www.usnews.com/healthplans. Health Alliance Plan will be listed among the top 50 commercial and top 25 Medicare health plans in U.S. News, available on newsstands on Monday, November 10.
